About

Dr. Surles joined the Physicians East family in October of 2023 and practices at our primary care location in Farmville. She has over 20 years ofexperience in family medicine and geriatrics.

She received her master’s degree in Pathology at UNC and completed medical school at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine
(#piratelife). Dr. Surles then completed her family medicine residency at ECU Family Medicine, followed by a geriatric fellowship with ECU FamilyMedicine’s Geriatric Division. Dr. Surles has received numerous awards over her prestigious career. This includes the 2023 ECU Health Patient Choice Award and the 2010 and 2012 Brody School of Medicine Outstanding Community Preceptor Award.

In her spare time, Dr. Surles is a faculty preceptor for medical, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant students. Outside of her passion for providing quality care to her patients, she is a songbird at heart, enjoying musical theater and singing. Dr. Surles has been married to her high-school sweetheart, Dr. John Surles, an emergency physician in Tarboro, for 29 years and has two wonderful daughters.
